Isaiah 9v6-7. For to us a child is born.
Titus 3v4-7 Saved through renewal of the Holy Spirit through Christ.
Luke 1v30-37 The Angels tell Mary
Good evening, my name is ‘David,’ which means beloved of God. ( Names have a meaning)
Name above all names! Philippians 2v9-11
Isaiah 9v6-7 (650bc)
And He will be called:-
Wonderful Counselor.
Mighty God.
Everlasting Father.
Prince of Peace.
The government will be upon his shoulders
There will be no end to the increase of his government and peace.
He will reign on David’s throne and kingdom.
Establishing and upholding justice and righteousness.
For ever.
Luke 1v30-37
He will be great.
He will be called, ‘The Son of the Most High’
The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David.
He will reign over the house of Jacob for ever.
His kingdom will never end.
The Holy Spirit will come upon you.
The power of the Most High will overshadow you.
The holy one to be born will be called the Son of God.
You are to give him the name Jesus. v31.
Jesus:- Greek form of Joshua, which means ‘The Lord Saves’.
Christ:- Is a Roman word for ‘Saviour’, Christos.
Those who call upon his name will be saved. Acts 2v21. 4v12. Rom 10v3.
Even in the Lord’s Prayer, we say “Hallowed (Holy) be your name.” Matt 6v9.
I am really concerned for those who use God’s chosen name as a rebuke or swear word, it seems to me, it is like heeping judgement upon oneself.
Heb 1v1-5.
“In the past God spoke to our forefathers through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days he has spoken to us through his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom he made the universe.
The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven.
So he became as much superior to the angels as the name he has inherited is superior to theirs. For to which of the angels did God ever say. ‘You are my Son, today I have become your Father?”
‘Jesus’, name above all names, wonderful Saviour, glorious Lord!
