Spiritual Reflection

I recommend either of the following daily meditation models:-

1. Lectio Divina (Devine Reading). 6th Century.

The Benedictine way of Lectio Divina quite simply means reading slowly enough to notice when something catches your attention and then stopping to ponder. This pondering or meditation is the time to be open to what God is saying. It is the listening time when the Spirit applies the ancient words to the ‘now’ moment. When that message or impact becomes clear there is usually a response that arises. Then it is good to rest and absorb the moment before moving on.

Write it down in your note book/ journal, so you can reflect upon it again later.

2. Ignatian meditation. 16th Century.

This is a way of reading a gospel narrative as if you were part of the story – entering right into it rather than just “reading about” the incident. Taking the role of the shepherd when the angel announces Jesus’ birth, or being Peter when asked to step out of the boat, or standing with Mary at the foot of the cross.

In this way of praying we meet Jesus in a fresh and personal way.

John 1v43-51. Nathanael (Bartholomew) under the fig tree.

Luke 13v10-13 ff-17.  A crippled woman healed on the Sabbath

Note your experience in your journal.
