The Alpha Course
-
The world famous Alpha course is
designed to help people to examine the foundation of the Christian faith. It is
ideal for both those who have been church goers for many years and those who are
recently considering the Christian faith.
-
It is a course of about 12
sessions and we run it at least once a year.
-
If you want to re-explore the
Christian faith or build those foundations then this is the course for you.
-
We encourage all those wishing
to be baptised or have their children baptised to do the Alpha course first as a
way of preparation and introduction.

The
Opportunity Shop

-
We are one
of five churches involved in this ministry in the community and a number of our
members are volunteers throughout the year. The shop is on the Main Road near
Durham Street. People donate clothes and other items which are sold very cheaply
and the proceeds are used in the further ministry of those five churches.
-
-
Pop into the shop for more information.

Super
Meals

-
As part of our commitment and outreach
to the older members of the community we plan a large dinner to cater up to 100 people about three to four
times a year.
-
We encourage members of the
congregation to invite friends and neighbours in the community who have perhaps lost
touch with the church or stopped coming years ago and anyone on the edge of the
church family or simply those with no church connection.
-
We celebrate the major seasons in the
church calendar such as a meal around Christmas time and another around Easter
and another around our Matronal Festival in August and then hopefully another in
the year at some point.
-
This is a real mission outreach
opportunity to the older members in the community and often serviced by the
older members as well through the kitchen.
-
On the occasion we invite some of the
youth connected with the church to serve at the tables, we have a few hymns or
carols and a short talk or presentation on the gospel theme for the occasion.
-
It’s a great way of developing further
contact with those just outside the edge of the church.

Bible
in School
-
-
We support this valuable ministry in
many schools, to teach and encourage some of the basic historic biblical stories
to our young children. This is totally a volunteer organization for both those
offering this ministry and also for those receiving it. Many of our moral values
in society have in the past come from a biblical world view which has shaped our
understanding of justice, morality, faithfulness and forgiveness. Without these
basic principles people look elsewhere for guiding principles and often feel
lost in the world.
-
This ministry helps to introduce young
people to the biblical God and clarify the foundations of spiritual awareness
and understanding.

Anglican Literacy Programme
-
-
To help encourage literacy in primary
schools. Volunteer adults go into schools to listen to children read at the
request of the school. A number of our congregation volunteer in this way and we
are always looking for more adults to act as volunteers. We are also open to
hear from more schools who would like help from this valuable literacy support
programme.
Overseas
Mission Support
- We send most of our mission support money to
the Anglican Missions Board for the collective support of many overseas
missions and missionaries. On top of that we do also support other local and
national missions and charities of course the occasional disaster relief
fund.

Vivien Christian is our Overseas Missions Co-ordinator.
