Uniformed Youth
- St. Mary’s Scout
Group:
-
- St. Mary’s Scout Group has been sponsored
by the St. Mary’s Anglican Parish since the mid 1920’s. The Group
currently has a Cub pack and a Scout troop.
-

- The Cub pack caters for Boys and
Girls 7 – 10 years old, running sessions in the
hall on Tuesday evenings from 6.30 p.m. to 8.00 p.m. during term times.
The activities include camping, fishing, knotting, kite flying, compass
work, and playing games. Having fun is most important.
-
- The Scout troop is for Boys and
Girls aged 10 – 16 years old and meets in the
hall on a Wednesday night from 7p.m. to 9p.m.
- The Scout programme includes activities
such as rock climbing, tramping, camping, cycle trips, faith awareness,
leadership training, Jamboree’s, and for the Senior Scouts there are
aviation, ski, and canoe schools.
-
- See contacts page for leaders details.

- St. Mary’s Girl
Guides
-
- While this district is fairly new, its
history goes back many, many years – St. Mary’s was host to the first ever
Peace Scouts in NZ – Peace Scouts were the forerunner to the present day
Guides.
- Our District covers from Queen Street to
the Manawatu River.
-
- Currently we have:-
-
·
Pippins (aged 5 - 6).
-
·
Brownies (aged 7 - 10).
-
·
Guides (aged 11 -14).
-
- We are committed to a programme that is
balanced and full of variety while at the same time meeting all the
requirements for the girls to attain their national Awards before
completing their years in Guides, and moving onto Rangers.
-
- Our District has some 40 girls, 3 adult
warranted leaders, 2 rangers in leadership and a number of permanent
mother helps. We have a support team who do a fantastic job in ensuring
the funds we need are available.
- We continue to sell Girl Guide Biscuits
each year and the Pippins unit sells Diaries to raise funds for their
sleepovers.
-
- Girls programmes have changed over the
years to meet current changes in our world, but we still bring the
outdoors to them as much as we can – camping and the skills necessary to
run a good camp are all part and parcel of the Guiding programme through
all levels of the movement.
-
- We love being part of the St. Mary’s
Parish and think the facilities are great.
-
- See contacts page for leaders details.
