WORSHIP

Sunday Services
Levin on Sundays:-

7.45am

Said Communion. BCP

This is a quieter early morning traditional service.

9am

Sung Communion. NZPB.

This is a fuller service with choir and organ and modern traditional in style.

10.45am

Family Communion with children’s ministry. Non liturgical.

This is our modern family style service with little traditional liturgy and a music group. Our children’s ministry runs parallel to this service and so its probably the most suitable for young families. On the second and fourth Sundays we follow the service with a bread and fillings fellowship meal so that we can get to know each other a bit better. Come and join us it is very relaxed.

Waitarere on Sundays:-
9.00am  Every Sunday   Communion. (Varied liturgy)

Ohau on Sundays:-
11am 2nd and 4th Sunday  Communion. NZPB

Mid week Services
Tuesdays 7.30am Communion. NZPB. In the Lady Chapel
Wednesdays 10am Communion. NZPB on first Wednesday in the month with healing.
BCP on 2nd, 4th Wednesdays in the month.
After the service at about 10.45am there are refreshments served in the lounge until about 11.15am when some stay for the morning bible study fellowship. You are most welcome to join us. This service is a favourite with the elderly who find the times on Sunday difficult or who have families commitments.

DIARY
   See News Sheet for details.

Special Services
We enjoy the rich tradition of the Christian Calendar year celebrating the major festivals throughout the year especially around Advent, Christmas with Midnight Communion and nine lessons and carols and a special children’s nativity service. Also around Easter with a special children’s service, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday and Ash Wednesday etc and of course Pentecost. Others include Battle of Britain, St. Frances.

We are pleased to meet other special requests from the community and encourage as much interaction between the church and community as possible. If you or your organisation would like to arrange a special service reflecting a Christian understanding of the world, please have a word with the Vicar.

Choir
St. Mary’s Choir is an enthusiastic fellowship of musicians from the congregation who enjoy singing together and enhancing worship to the Glory of God.  We currently have 12 members and meet on Thursday evenings at 7.30 p.m. for practice.

The Choir sings at one service each Sunday.  Three Sundays a month we sing a Eucharist at the 9.am service.  During this service, at communion, we sing a traditional setting of the Psalm, as well as a Taize or similar piece and an anthem appropriate for the theme of the day.  On the 4th Sunday of the month we sing Evensong at 5 pm using the traditional 1922 Prayer book setting and the NZPB setting on alternate months.

We have a large repertoire of music, both traditional and more modern and we are willing to give most things a go. The Choir presents music for a variety of events in the church calendar including Advent, Passion Sunday, Easter, Nine Lessons and Carols and the midnight Christmas Eve Service as well as leading the singing at the Patronal festivals of St. John’s and St. Aidan’s Churches.

Music Group
We are adults and youth who lead worship at the 10.45am service and practice and pray on Thursday evenings at 6.30pm.  We welcome interest from other faithful Christian musicians, sensitive to the Holy Spirit and who love to worship the Lord. We are building our repertoire with modern choruses and some older one. At the moment we have a number of singers, keyboard, bass guitar and drums. We are especially praying for a lead guitar to come and join us and another keyboard player.

Meet us on a Sunday mornings.

Liturgical Assistants
We believe in the ministry of all believers. Those with a sensitivity for leading worship, traditional or modern are encouraged to take part in leading the services regularly
These people are licensed by the Bishop for this ministry and are involved in training and ongoing spiritual development throughout the year.

Preaching
A broad range of people have gifts in preaching and are encouraged to share a biblical faith from their distinctive perspective in life. This breadth of experience adds to life of the faith community as we learn from each other. We also often follow preaching themes on a monthly basis in between major calendar themes.

Occasionally we invite visiting missionary workers to present their ministry to us so that we can be intelligently informed about what God is doing elsewhere in the world and the church.

Welcome
We try hard to look out for and welcome new people who come to church, some are visitors but others locals. Our side people are encouraged to give special attention to new people and help them with any uncertainties or questions about the service etc. (We also have a toilet for those in need.)
If you are new, it often takes a few weeks to really get used to a new setting and so let me encourage you to come more than once and if you would like a visit from the Vicar or a member of the parish, please fill in one of the cards in the pews and hand it in at the end of the service or pop it into the collection plate.

Flower Roster
St. Mary’s Parish operates a flower roster for approximately 11 months of the year.

We have 29 ladies on our roster, very willing and able to do the flowers each week.
Some ladies like to work in pairs while others prefer to arrange the flowers by themselves.
The flowers are arranged in two large vases either side of the main Altar table and two smaller ones in the Lady Chapel.  Sometimes we are asked to do pedestal arrangements for Weddings or Funerals.

The Flower Convener rings the ladies individually each week and calls in to the church to make sure the flowers have been arranged ready for the Sunday and Wednesday Services. Each year a new flower roster is prepared making sure the timing is right for each individual.

If you would like to join our happy team of flower ladies, please phone the church office.
